IMPORTS—continued.
(6). The landing in CypruB of cattle, horns, hoofs, bones, fodder, litter or dung from
vessels arriving from places where cattle disease has been publicly notified to exist,
is prohibited.
(7). The importation of hides and skins is restricted to the port of Larnaca (except in
cases where special permission under the hand of the Chief Medical Officer has been
obtained to import them at some other place) and such importation shall, in all coses,
be subject to the regulations in that behalf for the time being in force under L a w 4 of
1880.
(8). The importation of rags and old clothing into any port or place of the Island of
Cyprus, other than Larnaca, is prohibited, and auch importation is liable to be
prohibited iu any case in which the Chief Medical Officer or any Officer acting for or
delegated by him certifies that the importation of rags or old clothing is likely to be
injurious to the public health.
T h e importation into the Island of old or used clothes for the purposes of sale or
oommerce is absolutely prohibited.
The importation of saccharine is prohibited except in small quantities not exceeding 21bs.
and then only with the permission of the Chief Medical Officer previously obtained in writing.
The importation of indecent or obscene prints, printings, photographs, books, cards, litho–
graphic or other engravings, or auy other indecent or obscene articles is prohibited.
The importation of waste or refuse of cotton wool known ias "Flock" is absolutely
prohibited.
All fruits aud vegetables (rt) in a raw state,
whether fresh or dried (save as provided at (a*) below).
All trees and pluuts and every living part of a tree
or plaut including seeds (b), (save as provided at (d)
below).
Allflowers,cut or otherwise.
All dried plants und flowers (d).
Stares which have bean used for vine props or
similar purposes.
All binding which has been used for vines or other
plauts.
Earth and gravel, leaf and garden mould.
All animal and vegetable manures, except guano,
bone dust and other fossil ur chemically prepared
manures.

No article, the importation of which is in any way prohibited or restricted under
the provisions of these regulations, shall be allowed to be imported from any place or
country from which the importation of such article is not prohibited or restricted, unless
the officer'of the Customs shall be satisfied that such article does not originate in any
place or country from which the importation of such article is prohibited or restricted
and that the other requirements of these regulations have been complied with in respect
of such article.
(a) Potatoes for seed purposes may be imported at Larnaca and Famatrusta in such quantities and from such countries only as shall
be specially authorised by the Director of Agriculture. Order in Council No. 928 Gazette No. 1569 of SOth March, 1923
(b) The importation of cotton seed from any country shall be permitted only if such cotton seed is accompanied by a Declaration
and Certificate in the prescribed form shewing the place of origin and declaring it free from Phylloxera. Mealy Bug (Crossotosoma
Aegyptiacum), the Lesser Cotton W o r m (Aletia luridula), Boll Weevil (Anthonomus grandis,, Colorado Beetle, Pink Cotton Boll W o r m
(Gelechia Gossy. Piella), and such other disease as may be notified in the Cyprtu Gazette.
(«) Grass, leaves or other vegetable matter used as packing for goods imported from auy of above places shall be destroyed ac the
Custom House at the port of arrival; except when such packing is in the form of manufactured wrappers of dry straw, which m a y be
admitted. The importation of hay and straw, compressed or otherwise, from other countries shall be permitted only if such hay or straw
ia accompanied by a Declaration or Certificate! in the prescribed form shewing the place of origin and declaring it free from Phylloxera,
Mealy Bug (Crossotosoma Aegyptiacum), the Lesser Cotton W o r m (Aletia luridula). Boll Weevil (Anthonomus grandia), Colorado Beetle,

(d) EXEMPTIONS.—Nothing in this Order contaiued shall be deemed to prohibit the importation of the following articles :—Wheat,
barley and other cereals, and all dry seeds (except cotton seed) properly cleaned from the husk, straw and earth. Acorns, vallonia,
almonds, walnuts, chestnuts and other nuts, (free from the outer husks, leaves, stalks and branches), except ground nuts. Preserves.
Crystallized fruits. Bottled and canned fruits and vegetables hermetically scaled in proper receptacles. Flour and meal of all kinds aod
every preparation thereof. Tamarind. Raponaria wood. Vegetables desiccated by artificial heat and enclosed in packages. Dry and
-aromatic plants used for medicinal purposes and for dyeing, if free of earth.
