weighing less th*in 20 okes each and bj ships of less than 60 tons burden, sec. 26, L a w

A N I M A L S
:—Bulls, cows, oxen, heifers, calves, camels, horses, mules, asses, sheep, goats,
swine and poultry : Importation restricted to the ports of Larnaca, Famagusta,
Limassoi, Kyrenia and Paphos, landing to be m a d e in quarantine and with the
permission of the Director of Agriculture, or an Inspector of Cattle Disease, or a
Health Officer.
D O G S . — T h e landing iu Cyprus of dogs from any port, whether a foreign oc a Cyprus port,
is prohibited.
The importation into the Island of the under-mentioned goods, articles and merchandise
is prohibited absolutely:
(1). Silver or copper coins.
(2). Beshliks, altiliks or metallique piastres.
(3). All sovereigns and half sovereigns coined before the reign of Her late Most
Gracious Majesty Queen Yictoria.
(4). All sovereigns aud half sovereigns which are below the least current weight as
defined in " T h e Coinage Act, 1870," or are otherwise not legally current in England.
(5). The substance Known as Hashish.
(6). Salt omer than table and rock salt.
The importation of the under-mentioned goods, articles and merchandise is subject to the
following restrictions :
(1). The importation into the Island offire-arms,detached portions offire-armsand
side-arms is prohibited except—
(a.) nt tlie ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and Famagusta, and
(b.) without a special license under the hand of the Chief Secretary issued under
L a w 24 of 1879, Sec. 30.
(2). The importation of gunpowder (except for the use of his Majesty's Naval and
Military forces) is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca and Limassoi (for Famagnsta see (5) (2) below).
(b.) in kegs or barrels of a capacity not exceeding ten okes or in flasks of lib. or of
\ lb. except where the High Commissioner has by special permission authorised
the importation in some other manner.
[Ji). The importation of shot, percussion cups, cartridges (other than ball cartridges)
-.nd side-arms is restricted to the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and Famagusta.
(4). The importation of ball cartridges or of ball cartridge-cases except for the use of
His Majesty's Naval and Military forces is prohibited, except—
(a.) at the porta of Larnaca, Limassoi and
(b.) with the special permission of the High Commissioner (for Famagusta see (5) (2)
below.)
(5). (1). The importation of dynamite, nitroglycerine, gun-cotton, fulminate of mercury
or of other metals or of auy kindred substance is prohibited—
(«.) except at the port of Larnaca (for Famagusta see (2) below), and
(&.) with the special permission of the High Commissioner, auch permission being
in writing under the hand of the Chief Secretary to Government and subject to
snch conditions as the High Commissioner may thinkfitto impose.
(2). Gunpowder, Ball Cartridges, Dynamite, Nitroglycerine, Gun-cotton, Blasting
powder, Fulminate of Mercury or other metals, and every other substance or prepara–
tion used or manufactured for explosive or pyrotechnic purposes, Fog signals, Rockets,
Fireworks, Fuzes, Detonators and Ammunition of all descriptions, including empty
cartridge cases, may be imported at the Port of Famagnsta by such person or persons
as may be authorised in that behalf by special permission of the High Commissioner
given under the hand of the Chief Secretary to Government, and subject to auch
limitations as to quantity as the High Commissioner may seefitto impose; and upon
such importation the said articles shall be landed at such place aud in such manner
as the Commissioner and Principal Officer of Customs of the District of Famagusta
shall appoint (b).

(a) Tobacco may, however, be imported bj parcel post in small quantities on payment of an additional duty of i^ep. per oke, or
fraction of an oke, Gazette 699 of 25th May, 1901. page 4498. If otherwise imported than through the Parcel Post under special permis–
sion from the High Commissioner in packages of less than 20 okes, there is payable in addition to the Customs dnty a further import
tUtr of 1*. oer oke. or fractior of an oke, Gazette 718 of 17th January, 1902, page 4694.
(6) Permission has been given to Nobel's Explosive Company, Glasgow, to import and store in two specially constructed Magazinei-
North of Famagnsta., any quantity of above Explosives, n. e. in weight 15 tons, exclusive of detonators, safety fuze, sporting cartridges,
and otber accessories snch as cables and batteries. (Order of Hieh Commissioner of 28th August, 1906, C S . 1873/04.)
N.B.—The Nobel's Explosive Company pay a rental of £6 on lst August each year in order to meet expenses in connection with
guarding (Art. 1, Agreement of 18th May, 1905, M.P. 1873/04.)
