Description of the Project

1.
The Projec !. objectives are to support and strengthen ongoing
activίtίes
of the Borrower ai rned at improving the standard of living of the poorest seg–
ments of the rur '=J J popuJation through the deveJopment of viabJe livestock
units and

small hoJdings, and the promotion of import

The Project consists of the following parts:
Part
Α
- Livestock Production
(1)
Provision of funds for the CCB to provide long and
medίum
term
loans respectively 1or:
(a)
expansion and/or upgrading of exist ing animal sheds

the
construction of new sheds;
(b)
increase of
eχist
ing flock sizes through the purchase of ad–
dit iona) animals and/or the retention of replacement ewe
lambs and rams/bucks.
(2) Provision of funds for the DCD to provide seasonal loans to farmers
for the purchase of livestock feed.

collecting and coo1ing centres and laboratories
Implementation of a new system of sheep and goat milk collection
and coo) ing through:

The establishment of about 32 milk collecting and overnight cooling
centres; .
(2) The estabiishment of 3 new milk testing laboratories

Larnaca,
Limassol and Paphos and provision of equipment and of funds to cover
incremental operating costs for the existing MANR testing laboratory

Nicosia so as to facilitate milk quality control.
(3) The de velopment of efficient and economic methods for tlle han–
dling and transporting of rnilk.
(4) The development, if possible, of commercialJy applicable methods
for test ing the composit ion of
