the
First Phase of the Southern Conveyor Scheme for Water Resources
Development, are:
(1)
to ensure adequate domest1c and 1ndustrlal
water suppl1es to the Famagusta, Larnaca, Llmassol and Nicos1a
dls trlcts

to rural · areas; '( 2) to malnta1n 1rrlgated
crop product1on
the Kokklnokhor1a area and prevent seawater
1ntrus1on tl1rough the aqulfer
sald area; (3) to br1ng 1nto
effect cost recovery measures for domestlc and 1rr1gatlon water
order to optlmlze the econom1c benef1t to
be
der1ved from the
Borrower's water resources; and
(4) to .festructure the
inst1tut1onal framework for the 1mproved management of those
resources. The 10ng-term obj ec tlve of the Proj ect
to ach1eve
ful1 development of the Southern Conveyor Scheme for Water
Resources Development through lmplementatlon of the Second Phase
of said Scheme.
The Project conslsts of the follow1ng Parts:
Part
Α:
Kouris Dam
Construct10n of
θη
earth-fl11ed dam
οη
the Kourls Rlver for
a reservo1r w1th a capac1ty of approx1mately
115
m11110n cublc
meters to store water flows from the Kour1s, Kryos and Zyghos
Rlvers.
Part
Β:
Maln Conveyor
1.
Construct10n of a plpel1ne approx1mately
110
k110meters
length and related branch p1pel1nes and break pressure tanks to
connect the Kour1s reserv01r wlth the Akhna
reserν01r.
2.
Construct10n of a p1peline approx1mately 2 kilometers
length to connect the ma1n conveyor to the Vas111kos-Pendask1nos
Project.
Part C:
Akhna
Reserνolr
Construct10n of
θη
earth-f111ed dam for a termlnal reserv01r
w1th a capac1ty of approx1mately 5.8 m11110n cub1c meters to
regulate water .deliver1es for 1rr1gat1on
the Kokk1nokhoria
area.

Κokk1nokhoria
Irrigat10n Distribution Systeln
1.
Construction of a
networ~
of pipelines, including
hydrants,
. valνes
and meters, to deliver irrigation water through
central distr1but10n points to farms
ίη
a
5,125
hectare area at
Kokk1nokhoria. Installation of pumping stations at each central
distrlbut10n point to provide sufficient water pressure for the
operation of the on-farm systems.

Consolidation of about
1,800
hectares of land
ίη
v111ages of the Larnaca district.
Part
Ε:
Development of Domestic Water Supply
1.
Construct10n of subsurface dams (sealing barriers), bore–
holes w1th pumping plants, chlorination facilities and trans–
miss10n lines
βΟ
as
