Philippines hereinafter referred

as the "Con tracting Parties " ;
Desiring to strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries and

intensify their
economic relations ;
Aiming

develop and promote cooperation between the Republic

Cyprus and the Repu–
blic
οί
the Philippines
ίη
the field
οί
merchant s'hipping
οη
a mutually advantageous basis
ίη
accordance with their respective needs and objectives for economic development;
Have agreed as follows :
ARTICLE 1
The Contracting Parties agree

cooperate
οη
the basis
οί
equal rights, mutual benefit and the
ΡήιtcίΡΙe οί
freedom
οί
merchant shipping
ίη
order
Ιο
develop the relations between the Re–
public
οί
Cyprus and the Republic
οί
the Philip–
pines
ίη
the field
οί
merchant shipping.
ARTICLE 2
For the purpose
οί
this Agreement :
(a) The term "vessel " shall mean any mer–
chant vessel registered
ίη
the
terrίtΟΙΎ
and flying the national flag
οί
either Con–
tracting Party or used
οη
a time charter
basis by a shipping enterprise registered
and operating under the laws and regu–
latίoηs
and having its registered office
ίη
the territory
οί
either Contracting
Party.
This definition excludes warships,
auxiliary warships. fishing vessels and
other vessels destined or used for
ηοη­
commercial purposes;
(b)
The term " crew " shall mean all persons,
including the Master, actually employed
under contract for duties
οη
board a
vessel during a voyage and included
the crew list ;
(c) The term
"ports~' οί
the Contracting
Parties shall mean seaports, including
roadsteads,
ίη
the territory
οί
either Con–
tracting Party which are approved and
open
ιο
intemational shipping.
ARTICLE 3
The
terήtοrίes οί
the Contracting Parties to
which the present Agreement applies are :
(a)

the part of Cyprus, the
Republίc
of
Cyprus and
(b)
οη
the part
οί
the
Philίppines,
the Re–
public
οί
the Philippines.
ARTICLE 4
(1)
The Contracting Parties shall :
(a) promote participation
οί
their vessels
ίη
the · transportation
οί
goods between the
Republic
οί
Cyprus and the Republic
()f
the Philippines;
(b) cooperate
ίη
eliminating hindrances
which may complicate merchant shipping
between the
ροαι οί
their respective ter–
ritories;
(c) for the purpose
οί
effectively utilizing
mutually their vessels, support measures,
as far as possible, for the transportation
οί
goods
ιο
and from third countries;
(d) cooperate for the employment, improve–
ment
οί
conditions
οί
work and for the
welfare
οί
their seamen employed
οη
each
other's vessels.
(2) The provisions
οί
this Article shall
ηοΙ
affect the right
οί
vessels under the flag
οί
a
third State
Ιο
participate
ίη
the transportation
οί
goods between the territories
οί
the Contracting
Parties.
(3) Shipping enterprises registered and operating
under the laws and regulations and having their
registered office
ίη
the territory
οί
either Con–
tracting Party, may operate joint liner services
as well as conclude mutual agreements
οη
techni–
cal, organizational and commercial matters, sub–
ject
ιο
existing laws and regulations
οί
the Con–
tracting Parties.
ARTICLE 5
(1)
The vessels
οί
one Contracting Party and
their crews and cargoes shall be subject

same conditions as vessels, crews and cargoes of
