- OBJECTlVES
Article 1
Objectives
The objectives of this Agreement are:
(1) to achieve a reasonable balance between world supply and demand

a basis which wil1 assure adequate supplies of coffee at fair prices to
consumers and markets for coffee at remunerative prices to producers and
which wi11 be conducive to long-term equilibrium between production and
consumption;
(2) to avoid excessive fluctuations
ίη
the levels of world supplies,
stocks and prices which are harrnful to both producers and consumers;
(3) to contribute to the development of productive resources and to the
promotion and maintenance of employment and income
ίn
Member countries,
thereby helping to bring about fair wages, higher living standards and
better working conditions;
(4) to 1ncrease the purchasing power of coffee-exporting countries by
keeping prices

accordance with the provisions of paragraph (1) of this
Artic1e and by increasing consumption;
(5) to promote and increase the consumption of coffee by every possible
means;
(6)

general,

recognition of the relationship of the trade
ίη
coffee
to the economic stabi1ity of markets for industria1 products, to further
international cooperation 1n connection with wor1d coffee prob1ems.
