Point of entry into the scale will depend on qualifi–
cations and experience.
The post is permanent and pensionable but the
appointment will be temporary in thefirstinstance.

Department.
VACANCY.
Applications are invited from Turkish Cypriots
for one vacancy in the temporary post of Accounting
Officer, 2nd Grade. The salarv of the post is £570
X24—690X30—720, plus cost-of-living allowance
at the rates approved by Government from time to
time, the present rate being 28J ^ of salary.
2. Duties and responsibilities : Responsible for
the accounting work of a small Government Depart–
ment or of a Section of the Treasury, the supervision
of subordinate accounting staff, the control ot
revenue and other collections and of the disburse–
ment ot monevs ; conduct of correspondence in
English and generally the performance of such
duties of an accounting nature as may be assigned
to him by the Treasurer.
3. Qualifications required :
For First Entry :—
(a)—(i) Leaving Certificate of a secondary
school with a six-year course; and
knowledge of English of the standard
of English Higher ;
or
(ii) The following subjects of the Cyprus
Certificate of Education Examination
at the levels indicated —
1. English Higher—Credit level.
2. Turkish Higher—Pass level.
3. Mathematics " A "—Credit level
4. Mathematics " B "—Pass level
5. Any three other
subjects at —Pass level; and
(iii) The Higher Certificate in book–
keeping and Accountancy of the
London Chamber of Commerce, or
some other examination approved as
of equivalent standard ; or
{b) A universitv degree in commercial sub–
jects or other appropriate post-secondary
education. Such candidates may be
allowed to enter the post at a higher
point in the salary scale.
For Promotion from Other Posts :—
A good knowledge of accounting and Boor-
keeping with a special knowledge of Government
accounting methods ; a competent knowledge
of Government rules and regulations in so far
as these relate to finance and accounts. In
addition, candidates must possess the Higher
Certificate in Book-keeping and Accountancy of
the London Chamber of Commerce or some
other examination approved as of equivalent
standard. They will be required to pass the
examinations in Colonial Regulations, General
Orders and Financial Instructions, within two
years of promotion.
4. Applications should be submitted on Form
Gen. 6 and should reach the Acting Treasurer,
Treasury Headquarters, Nicosia, not later than the
23rd June, 1960. Applicants already in the Govern–
ment service should submit their applications
through their Head of Department.

taxes or duties which remained unpaid on the 1st
March, 1960, from the undermentioned persons and
in default of payment to levy execution upon the
aforesaid persons by seizure and sale of the movable
property of such persons and to take such other
steps as may be necessary for the recovery of any
amount due by such persons in default under the
provisions of the Tax Collection Law, Cap. 303.
All sums assessed under section 28 of the Water
Supply (Municipal and Other Areas) Laws, 1951
to 1954, on Messrs. N. Georgallis and Sons,

Nicosia, together with an increase thereof by twenty-
five per centum.
