Although the forests of Cvprus were delimited with an area of'
square miles in 1892 they uow comprise an area of 633.6 square mi
Ther are situated on the two main ranges of mountains :—

(a) the southern range, extending across the south-western enc
the Island, from Stavrovouni to Cape Akamas ; and
(b) the northern range, running from Cape Andreas to C
Kormakiti. Except at trie western end, where there are 15 sqr
miles of forest, the forests ou the northern rauge are coatined to
lull tops.
There are eight main forests, namely:

Of these 73.50 square miles are either bare, burnt," cut-over
comprise rocky, river bs*d, road, path or otber non-forest-bearing a*
There are also mixed timber and scrub forests covering a I
area of 2:53.67 square miles of which 117.00 square miles are ro
bare, burnt or " cut-over," road, path or river bed areas.
Tlie principal forest trees are :—
Pinus Halepensis; Pinus Nigra, Subsp. (Pallosianai; Cupn
Sempervirens ; Qnercus Alnifolia ; Platauus Orientalis; A
Orientalis ; Cedrns Brevifolia ; Arbutus Andrachne.
There are seven Saw Mills sitnated in the forests and one in Ni«
which partially meet the timber requirements of tlie Isl
Planks, boards, scantlings and rafters are chiefly cut, but also wo
implements, such as shovels and forks, and cart material, sucl
felloes and spokes, are also made.
Except for the permits mentioned in the. annexed table
forest operations aud exploitation of the forest products are
ducted by the Forest Department.
