Although the forests of Cyprus were delimited with au area of 70
square miles in 1892 they now comprise an area of 640 square mile.
They are situated on the two main ranges of mountains :—
(a) the southern range, extending across the south-western end c
the Island, from Stavrovouni to Cape Acamas ; and
(b) the northern range, running from Cape Andreas to Cap
Kormakiti. Except at the western end, where there axe 15 squat
miles of forest, the forest3 on the northern range are coniined to tb
hill tops.
There are eight main forests, namely:
(1) Paphos and Kykko
(2) Troodos
(3) Adelphi
(4) Machaera
Kormakiti, Ayia Erini, and Diorioa

T h e principal forest trees are *.—
Pinus Halepensis; Pinus Nigra, Subsp. (Pallasiana) ; Cupres*
Sempervirens; Quercus Alnifolia; Platanus Orientalis ; ALn
Oriental ; Cedrus Brevifolia ; Arbutus Andrachne.
There are seven S a w Mills situated in the forests and one in Nicoj
which partially meet the timber requirements of the Islan
Planks, boards, scantlings and rafters are chiefly cut, but also wood
implements, such as shovels and forks, and cart material, snch
felloes and spokes, are also made.
Except for the licenses mentioned in the annexed table, i
forest operations and exploitation of the forest products are co
ducted by the Forest Department.
