PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS ON IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.—continued.
IMPORTS—continued.
The importation of the under-mentioned goods, articles and merchandise is subject to the '
following restrictions ;
(1). The importation into the Island of fire-arms, detached portions of fire-arms and
side-arms is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and Famagusta, and
(b.) without a special license under the hand of the Colonial Secretary issued nnder
L a w 24 of 1879, Sec. 30.
(2). The importation of gunpowder (except for the use of his Majesty's Naval and
Military forces) is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca and Limaasol (for Famagusta sett (5) (2) below).
(*.) in kegs or barrels of a capacity not exceeding ten okes or in flasks of lib. or of
\ lb. except where the Governor has by special permission authorised the |
importation in some other manner.
(3). The importation of shot, percussion caps, cartridges (other than ball cartridges)
and side-arms is restricted to the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and Famagusta.
(4). The importation of ball cartridges or of ball cartridge-cases except for tbe use of
His Majesty's Naval and Military forces is prohibited, except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and
(b.) with the special permission of the Governor (for Famagusta see (5) (2) below.)
(5). (1). The importation of dynamite, nitroglycerine, gun-cotton, fulminate of mercury
or of other metals or of any kindred substance is prohibited—
(a.) except at the port of Larnaca (for Famagusta see (2) below), and
(6.) with the special permission of the Governor, such permission being in writing
under the hand of the Colonial Secretary and subject to such conditions as the
Governor may thinkfitto impose.
(2). Gunpowder, Ball Cartridges, Dynamite. Nitroglycerine, Gun-cotton, Blasting
powder. Fulminate of Mercury or other metals, and every other substance or prepara–
tion U6ed or manufactured for explosive or pyrotechnic purposes, Fog signals, Rockets,
Fireworks, Fuzes. Detonutors and Ammunition of all descriptions, including empty
ball cartridge cases, m a y be imported at the Port of Famagnsta by such person or
persons as may be authorised in that behalf by special permission of the Governor
given under the hand of the Colonial Secretary and subject co such limitations
as to quantity as the Governor may seefitto impose; and upon such importation
Ode said articles shall be landed at such place and in such manner as the Commissioner
and Principal Olficer of Customs of the District of Famagusta shall appoint (a).
(6). The landing in Cyprus of cattle, horns, hoofs, bones, fodder, litter or dung from
vessels arriving from places where cattle disease has been publicly notified to exist,
is prohibited.
(7). (For hides and skins see below).
(8). The importation of rags and old clothing into any port or place of the Island of
Cyprus, other than Larnaca, is prohibited, and such importation is liable to be
prohibited in any case in which the Chief Medical Officer or any Officer acting for or
delegated by him certifies that the importation of rags or old clothing is likely to be
injurious to the public health.

SKINS.—The
importation of hides and skins of all equines, ruminants and "
swine is prohibited except at the Port of Larnaca, and then with the permission of
the Health Onicer of the Port to land them, and after disinfection.

A certificate by the Health Onicer of the Port that the disinfection has been
accomplished must be presented to the Customs Authorities before the removal of
the hides and skins from the place set aside for their disinfection is allowed.

North of Famagusta. any quantity of abore Explosives, not exceeding in weight 30 tons, exclusive of detonators, safety fuse, sporting
