SPECIFICATION OF TAXES, DUTIES, &C.
•TAX ON ANIMALS.
SHEEP AND GOAT T A X
2$ silver piastres (.3|cp.) per head yearly on every sheep and 5cp. per head yeariy on
every goat one year old and upwards.
The tax on goats may be increased and that on sheep decreased by the High Commissioner
in Council provided that no increase shall be made in the total amount receivable as calculated
upon the basis of the last preceding official returns of the numbers of sheep and goats in the
Island.
Sheep and goats not produced by the owners at thefirstofficial enumeration and uncounted
thereat are liable to double tax.
PIG TAX.
4-Jrcp. per head yeariy on every pig over three months old.
Pigs not produced by the owners at the first official enumeration and uncounted thereat are
liable to double tax.
* VERGHI.
KIMAT.
4 per 1,000 on the capital value of lands, houses and other immovable property.
The above rate of 4 per 1,000 lias been modified to the extent that the same shall be varied
on the completion of the valuation in any c--vn or village so as to yield, as neuriy as may be,
^provided than any fraction of 10 paras in such nice shall be counted as 10 paras; a -um equi–
valent to the amount of the assessment prior to thu coming into operation of the valuation.

E X E M P T I O N S .
Persons who under the Law of 29 Zilbidje. 127s. would have been entitled to exemption
from tithe ou olive trees planted hy them may apply to the Verghi department for exemixion
from verghi on such trees until such time as the immunity from tithe thereon wouid have
expired if the tithe nu olives were still leviable.

* FINES, FORFEITURES AND FEES OF COURTS.
FINES.
Fines are levied in the different Courts under the Ottoman and English Law a3 from time
to time altered or modified by Cyprus Statute Law.
FORFEITURES.
Forfeitures are similarly inflicted.

A . — I N CIVIL ACTIONS UEFORE THIS S U P R E M E C O U R T JC.D T H E DISTRICT COURTS.
In matters regulated by the Rules of Court. 1886, in matters
arisiug under tiie authority of clause 70 o;" the High Court of Justice
Law, 1879, and in proceedings in bankruptcy" under the provi–
sions of the Ottoman Commercial Code, the following fees are appointed
to be taken, in the Supreme Court, in the several "District Courts, in
any office which is connected with any of those Courts and by anv
officer attached to any of those Courts," in respect of the several pro–
ceedings mentioned :—
On sealing a writ of summons in an action :—
Where the amount claimed does not exceed £50 ...
Where the amonntclaimedexceeds £.50 it does not exceed £100 •
where no liquidated sum is claimed - or where the recovery of
money is not the object of the ac:ion
Where the amount claimed exceeds £100
On sealing a summons to any person to attend as witness or
otherwise ...
On application to re-enter action for hearing when it has been
entered and struck out for default of appearance and is not
re-entered by leave of the Court :—
Where the amount claimed does not exceed £50
Where the amount claimed exceeds £00 ; where no li.iuidated
sum is claimed; or where the recoverv of monev is not the
object of the action
On entering a judgment or any order for which no special fee is
