SPECIFICATION OF TAXES, DUTIES, &C
PARCEL POST.
INLAND.
The following rates of postage are collected on parcels sent between places within the
Island:—

GENERAL REGULATIONS.—DEFINITIONS.
1. Tbe expression " Parcel" means any packet which is transmitted by the Post between
certain places within the Island of Cyprus or to parts beyond the seas, and which bears the
words " Parcel Post," or is otherwise marked for transmission as a parcel, or is prepaid in
accordance with the rates of postage hereinafter mentioned, and is tendered for transmission
as a parcel.
DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT.
2. N o parcel shall be conveyed by Parcel Post the dimensions of which shall exceed in
length three feet six inches or exceed six feet in length and girth combined, or which shall exceed
in weight eleven pounds.
PLACES FOR POSTING.
3. Tbe places in the Island of Cyprus where Parcel Post business is transacted are
Larnaca, Nicosia. Limassoi, Famagusta, Papho, Kyrenia. Polemidia and the principal villages.
and. dtuing certain of the summer months, Troodos and Platres.
TESTE AND MODE OF POSTING.
-A. Parcels intended for transmission by Parcel Post will be accepted at any of the
offices previously named during the hours the offices are open for the transaction of ordinary
postal business. Parcels must not be posted in a Letter-Box, but must be taken into a Post
OflSce and handed over the counter to the officer on duty thereat; and a parcel should not be left
until the weight, size and postage have been tested by the clerk at the counter. If any such
parcel shall be left at a Post Office without being so measured and weighed, and shall not bear
tbe proper amount of postage stamps upon it, the parcel shall be detained, and may be given up
to the senders thereof or otherwise disposed of as circumstances may require. Parcels posted in
the letter box are treated as ^sufficiently prepaid letters.
5. Parcels mrcnding to be despatched to places outside Cyprus must be posted in tim« to
reach tbe office where the Parcel Mails are finally made np at lea3t one clear day. before tbe
steamer sails.

6. Parcels should be plainly directed and bear the words " Parcel Post" in tbe left-band
corner.
P A C K I N G .
7. Parcels must be securely and substantially packed by the sender. Parcels properly packed
to all external appearance are, however, only conveyed at tbe sender's risk.
FORBIDDEN, PERISHABLE, AND DANGEROUS ARTICLES.
8. It shall be prohibited to forward parcels which bear on the outside any writing or
drawing of an indecent or offensive nature or within whicb any contents of a like nature may be
observed, and parcels containing gunpowder, cartridges, oil-skins or other similar oiled goods,
oiled paper, luci/er matches, or anything explosive or liable to sudden combustion, bladders
containing liquid, live animals, grossly offensive orfilthymatter, and anything in a condition
likely to injure other parcels or any Officer of the P*. st OiSce.
9. Parcels containing nsh. game,_meat, fresh fruit, sweetmeats, eggs, etc., or razors, scissors,
needles, knives, forks, or other sharp instruments will not be accepted unless securely packed so
as to guard against risk or injury to otber parcels. Liquids or semi-liquids, such as jellies.
pickles, paint, varnish, etc., will not be accepted unless in bottles or cans securely stoppered!
nor powders unless so packed that tbey cannot escape in transmission or damage tbe mail.
10. Parcels shall not contain a letter, packet or parcel intended for delivery at an address
otber than that borne on tbe parcel itself.
11. Ir is also prohibited to send to tbe "United Eingdom foreign reprints of British rerlstered
copyright works, raise money, counterfeit, sterling and British silver coin below standard, "tobacco
stalks, clocks, watches and metals generally bearing imitations of British assay marks or stamps

12. Parcels re-directed from one Post Office to another in Cyprus shall be liable to
additional postage at the full inland rate for each re-direction. Persons desiring parcels to be
re-directed will be required tofillup a special form for the purpose, or state clearly by letter that
tbey wish this to be done, otherwise the parcels will not be forwarded.
PROVISION FOR SAFETY OF PARCELS.
13. In any case where it may be found necessary or expedient for the safety or protection
cf parcels that any parcel should be forwarded by some later despatch than that for which it was
