Taking an average of the number of
prisoners employed on Public Works and valuing
their labour at 4icp. per man per diem tor stone
breaking and 6cp. for other work, the value of
che services ot rhe convicts dm-ing the year may
be put at £1.212 9s. 6cp. The estimated value
ot the labour uf prisoners employed ou industrial
work (shoe-making, tailoring, weaving, dyeing,
carpentering, brush-making, stocking making
and baking)" is £2.641 12.-." 3cp.
The amouut derived from the sale of broken
stone to Municipalities, etc.. and paid into rhe
Treasury was £13 7s. 2cp.

supplied to the Public Works Department for
which uo pavmenc was received.

Sleep is iu association in rhe District Prisons.
The passages, corridors and wards are well
lighted. They are constantly patrolled during
the night, and are visir-r-1 frequently and at
uncertain hours by the Governor of the Prison.
Each prisoner sleeps in a separate cell iu
the Ceutral Prison.
One warder is stationed in each corridor
or (in the Central Prison) Block.

admitted ac the request of the prisoners.
In the District Prisons uo religious services
are held, except at Paphos and Larnaca for
Gveek-C4risna«w. The Greek-Christians con–
fess and receive the sacr.-.menc on their chief
religious festivals. Tn the Central Prison a
service for Moslems is held on Fridays and
on alternate Sundays a Priest -,-r Layman
attends and ministers r<» rue members of the
Greek Church. The attendance ~f rhe Hodj-i
has been regular and that of the Priest aud
Lavman has been more frequent this vear. viz :
