SPECIFICATION OF TAXES, DUTIES, &C.
IMPORT DUTY.
T A B L E OF EXEMPTIONS.
i.—All goods imported for the Government of Cyprus to be used in the public service and
duly certified as so imported by the Chief Secretary to Government.
ii.—All Military Stores imported by His Majesty's W a r Department and duly certified as
such by the Officer to w h o m they are consigned.
iii.—All goods imported for the use of the High Commissioner and duly certified by the High
Commissioner to be so imported, and if any article or thing on which duty has been paid at
the time of importation be subsequently supplied for the use of the High Commissioner, the
amount of the ducy on the article or thing so supplied shaU be repaid out of the Treasury on
the order of the High Commissioner, (a)
iv.—All articles of Military equipment imporced by and for the use of any Onicer of His
Majesty's land forces.
v.—Goods and Stores of every description supplied under contract with His Majesty's W a r
Department for the public use of His Majesty's land forces, dnly certified as such by the principal
Commissariat Officer, such certificate to be countersigned by the Chief Secretary to Government.
vi.—Uniforms of Public Officers and professional robes of Legal or Judicial Officers in the
employment of His Majesty's Government, provided that such uniforms or robes are incroduced
for the personal use only of"snch officers, and have been duly authorised.
vii.—Professional robes of Advocates entitled to practise in Cyprus.
viii.—Authorised uniforms of Foreign Consuls and Consular Officers and national flags
imported for their use.
Authorised uniforms of any Foreign Government to be worn by persons entitled to wear them.
Government medals and decorations to be worn by persons resident in Cyprus.
ix.—Fire-arms for the personal use of Officers of His Majescy's Xaval and Military Forces.
x.—Paving stones imported by Municipal Councils in the* Island to be used for che paving
of streees within the Municipal limics, and duly certified as so imported by the President and
Cashier of any Municipal Council.
xi.—Street lamps and theirfittingsimported by Municipal Councils in the Island to be used
in the lighting of Streets wichin the Municipal umic3, and duly certified as so imported by the
President and the Cashier of any Municipal Council.
xii.—Cask3 and vats, and 3taves and hoops for use in constructing casks and vats.
xiii.—Microscopes and all microscopical and other apparatus or appliances for purposes of
scientific investigation and research.
xiv.—Gymnascic apparatus, mathematical and generally all other instruments used in schools
for educational purposes, which are imported for the use of schools.
xv.—Animals and livestock, atlases and maps, anchors and chains (ships'), bark, boats,
charcoal, church furnicure. and articles intended to be used in the building andfictingup of
churches and mosques and vestments and other arcicles necessarily used for religious services
and certified to be so intended or used, as the case m a y be, by the proper ecclesiastical
authority, coals, empty casks and sacks, fresh fish, gold bullion and specie, ice, lime, medicines
and medical appliances, picch and tar, printed books, sawdust, silk-worms' eg?s, sponges taken
by licensed boacs. stationery, printing paper, whether white or coloured, priucing ink, princers'
type, and priming materials, sulphur, wheat, barley, oats, vetches, flour, bran, chopped straw.
cotton seed, fodder for caccle, and all mechanical appliances for use in manufacture and
examination of wine; sulphur syringes, tombstones and memorial tablets, and tools and
implements used in Agriculture and Handicrafts.
xvi.—Machinery and parts of Machinery and theirfittings,connections and gearing.
T h e Hisrh Commissioner mav in certain cases order admission free of duty of goods sent for
use in Consular Offices (Sec. 11 of L a w X X I I . of 1399).
Dutiable articles that have previously been exported from Cyprus, provided they are re-
imported not later than one year afcer exportation.
Hospital appliances or equipment, certified under the hand of the Chief Medical Officer to •
le imported for the use of any Hospital.
Firewood, free of Import duty.
Poscage Stamps—used or unused—other than those of Cyprus, are free of import duty.

Empty cardboard boxes and labels, which the Chief Collector of Customs is satisfied are for
use in connection with the raisin? of silk-worm eg*2*s.
