A PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency George Evelyn Sinclair, Knight
Bachelor, Companion of the Most Distinguished
Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Officer
of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire,
Officer Administering the Government of the
Colony of Cyprus.

WHEREAS
by Letters Patent passed under the
Great Seal of the United Kingdom constituting
the Office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief
of the Colony of Cyprus and providing for the
Government thereof, bearing date the Tenth day
of March, 1925, it was ordered inter alia that in
the event of the absence from the Colony of the
Governor and Commander-in-Chief for the time
being all and every the powers and authorities
therein granted to him should, until Her Majesty's
further pleasure be signified therein, be vested in
such person as may be appointed under Her
Majesty's Sign Manual and Signet to administer
the Government of the Colony :
A N D WHEREAS
by a Dormant Commission passed
under Her Majesty's Sign Manual and Signet,
bearing date the Tenth day of October, 1955,
George Evelyn Sinclair, Esquire, O.B.E., is appointed
to administer the Government of the Colony of
Cyprus in certain events :
A N D WHEREAS
His Excellency the Governor is
absent from the Colony:
Now,
THEREFORE,
I, George Evelyn Sinclair, Knight
Bachelor, Companion of the Most Distinguished
Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Officer
of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire,
Deputy Governor of the Colony of Cyprus, do hereby
proclaim and make known to all the inhabitants of the
Colony that, having taken the prescribed Oaths, I have
this day assumed and taken over the Administration of
the Government of this Colony, and I do hereby enjoin
all Officers of the Government, Civil and Military,
and all subjects of Her Majesty the Queen and
others the inhabitants of this Colony to take notice
thereof and to give their ready obedience accordingly.
Given at Nicosia this 16th day of January,
in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine
hundred and sixty.

Mr. J. F. Symons, O.B.E., Deputy Administra–
tive Secretary, acted as Administrative Secre–
tary from 10th to 15th January, i960.

Governor, was absent from the Colony on duty
from 6th to 15th January, i960.
