              VACANCIES.
            
            
              Applications are invited from suitably qualified
            
            
              Cypriot candidates for a limited number of vacancies
            
            
              in the temporary post of Postman, in the Postal
            
            
              Department. The salary of the post is £234X15
            
            
              — 2 6 4 X 1 8 — 3 3 6 per annum, plus cost-of-living
            
            
              allowance at the rate approved by Government from
            
            
              time to time, the present rate being 2 8 £ % of the
            
            
              salary.
            
            
              2. Candidates should be of strong physique and
            
            
              between 18 to 22 years old. They should possess
            
            
              a good knowledge of English of the standard of the
            
            
              English Lower examination, Greek or Turkish of the
            
            
              standard of the Lower examination and Geography
            
            
              of the standard of the Cyprus Certificate of Educa–
            
            
              tion.
            
            
              3. Duties and responsibilities : Opening of mails ;
            
            
              sorting of letters and parcels ; house to house deli–
            
            
              very of correspondence ; clearing of letter boxes ;
            
            
              •driving a mail van where necessary ; date-stamping
            
            
              of correspondence ; general assistance ; opening and
            
            
              closing of the office ; supervising the sweeping and
            
            
              cleaning of the office ; and any other duties which
            
            
              may be assigned to him by the Postmaster-General.
            
            
              4. Applications should be submitted on Form
            
            
              Gen. 6 and should reach the Postmaster-General not
            
            
              later than the 9th June, 1960. Applicants already
            
            
              in the Government service should submit their
            
            
              applications through the Head of their Department.
