The contract which commenced on the 1st October, 1931, provides that the
mailships employed for this service must be classed as equal to A l at Lloyds
and of a tonnage of not less than 2.000 tons, that the hull, engines, boilers, and
other machinery and equipment of the steamer are sufficient for the service and
in good and safe condition for the carnage of mails, passengers and cargo, aud
adapted for the h u m a n e shipping and unshipping of animals, and that the
service shall provide adequate accommodation for not less than 50 first-class,
30 second-class and 30 deck passengers.
