The contract which commenced on the 1st October, 1931, provide* that the
mailships employed for this service must be classed as equal to A l at Lloyds
and of x tonnage of not less than 2,000 tons, that the hull, engines, boilers, a n d
other machinery and equipment of the steamer are sufficient for the senrice and
in good and safe condition for the carriage of mails, passengers- and cargo, a n d
adapted for the h u m a n e shipping and unshipping of animals, and that the
serrice shall provide adequate accommodation for not less than 50 first-class,
30 second-class and 30 deck passengers.
