In consequence of riots which broke out in Cyprus in October,
1931. the Legislative Council of the Colony, which was established
by Letters Patent of His Majesty the King dated the 10th March, 1925,
was abolished and power to legislate was granted to the Governor of
the Colony, as an emergency measure, by Letters Patent of His Majesty
dated the 12th November, 1931, pending consideration of the question
•»f the constitutional future of the Island.
