Although the forests of Cyprus --vere delimited visa an area of 700
square miles in IS92 ibest: uo-.v conipri.-**; a*i area of S49 square-miles.
They are situated ou the two main ranges of mountains :—
1 a) tiie southern range, extending acrc-ss che souci-western end of
:he Island, from Stavrovouni to Cape Acamas ; aud
i.o) the northern ranire, vunuicg from Cape Andreas to Cape
Kormakiti. Except at the •.veste.-a *»nii. There there are 15 square
miles of forest, the forests on the north-cm range are confined to the
hill tops.

Of these 123.34 square mile-* are either bars, bnmi *' cut-over " or
comprise rocky, river !>**d, road. paths or ocber aon-forest-beariag
ureas.
There are also mixed timber and scrub forest-* covering a total
area of 292.-*S«> square miles of wliich l*i2.-56 ~*uure :niies are rocky,
bar*.', burnt or " cut-over," road, pacii or river bed areas.
The principal forest trees are :—
Pinus Kalepensis. Pinus. Xirra Snbsp. ''Pailasiana*, Cupressus
Sempervirens. Quercus Alnifoiia. Placanus Orientalis, Alnus
Orientalis. Cedrus Libanocic*.. Yar. Brevifolia, Arbutus
Audrachne.
There are six Saw Mills situated in the forests which partially
meet the timber requirements of t-e Isiir:*L Planks, boards, scant–
lings and raisers are chiefly cut. bu: also wooden imolements, such
as shovels, forks and cart material, 3uci. is felloes aadspoices are also
made.
Except for the licenses mentioned in the a-aexed table, all
forest operations and exploitation of -be foreat croducts are con–
ducted by tho Forest Department.
