* FINES, FORFEITURES AND FEES OF COURTS.
FINES.
_ Fines are levied in the different Courts under the Ottoman and English
Law
as from time
to time altered or modified by Cyprus Statute Law.
FORFEITURES.
Forfeitures are similarly inflicted.
FEES.
A . — I N CIVIL ACTIONS BEFORE T H E SUPREME COURT AND T H E DISTRICT COURTS.
In matters regulated by the Rules of Court, 1886, in matters
arising under the authority of clause 70 of the High Court of Justice
Law, 1879. and in proceedings in bankruptcy nnder the provi–
sions of the Ottoman Commercial Code, the following fees are appointed
to be taken, in the Supreme Court, in the several District Courts, in
any
office which is connected with any of those Courts and by any
officer attached to any of those Courts, in respect of the several pro–
ceedings mentioned :—
On sealing a writ of summons in any action :—
Where the amount claimed is £20 or under
Where the amount claimed is over £20 ; where no liquidated
sum is ciaimed; or where the recovery of money is not the
object of the action ...
On sealing a summons to any person to attend as witness or
otherwise ...
On application to re-enter action for hearing where it has been
entered and struck out for default of appearance and is not
re-entered by leave of the Conrt :—
Where the amount claimed is £20 or under
Where the amount claimed is over £20; where no liquidated.
sum is claimed: or where the recovery of money is not the
object of the action
On entering a judgment or any order for which no special fee is
provided...

Service of documents :—
For service in Cyprus of auy document required to be served through
the Court such fee as shall be properly payable to the Police for that
purpose, and on payment of such fee to the proper officer of Police, the
document will be served in the same manuer as though it were forwarded
for service by an officer of the Court.
The fees appointed to be taken by the Police are as follows :—
For the service of any document served within a distance of three
miles of the Court of the District
For every additional three miles or portion thereof ...
But so that the maximum fee charged shall not in any case exceed
