Other Information useful
for a n e w High Commissioner
Government House, Nicosia,
is a single-storied structure
of wood surrounded by a
verandah and a large stone
Gallery on the South side,
with detached Kitchen,
L a m p R o o m and Fuel
Stores of masonry. It
occupies three sides of a
square in the centre of
which is a concrete lawn-
tennis court. There is
also a croquet ground.
There is u separate small
stone building containing
two rooms for the use of the
Private Secretary aud
Aide-de-Camp.
There is a range of buildings
near the stables contain–
ing 5 quarters suitable for
grooms and servants.
There is stabling for 12
horses, cow-house, coach–
house, harness-room aud
motor shed. There is a
small glass house with
lean-to for flowers. Water
for the house aud garden is
procured from wells by -1
Air Motors, and led conve–
niently by pipes. A
labourer is also paid by the
Government to attend to
the earth closets and
remove rubbish.
At the front of the House a
stone building 7'x 6' has
been erected to match the
building, the front half of
which is used as a sentry-
box, and the back half sis a
lavatory for guests on the
occasion of dinners, etc.
