The Central Prison, Nicosia, is on the separate system,
but prisoners are in association in the work shops.
In the District Prisons each prisoner is kept in a
separate cell when there is room sufficient to allow of
this, and they work in associated gangs during the day.
By Warders and Sentries constantly patrolling the
corridors and passages and inspecting the wards and
cells where prisoners are confined.

CENTRAL PRISON :—
Long Sentence Division:
Block No. 1,100 cells.
Block No. 2, 95 cells, also 5 Crank Cells, 2 Dark Cells
and 1 Hospital Ward for 12 Patients.
Punishment Block, 14 cells.
School Building, containing 2 separate rooms each room
measuring 26 feet by 18 feet.
Short Sentence Division:
Block No. 1, 94 Cells.
Block No. 2, 100 Cells, also 5 Crank Cells, and 2 Cells
for prisoners under death sentence.
Female Division:
18 Cells for Prisoners.
1 R o o m for Visitors.
1 R o o m for Office.
2 Rooms for Female Warders.
Isolation Ward :
4 upstairs rooms for patients.
1 downstairs room used as cooking room.
1 downstairs room used as laundry.
1 downstairs room used as store.
1 downstairs oadded room.
IV. Taking the average number of prisoners in gaol,
how many cubic feet of space are there for each prisoner
during the hours of sleep 1

The doors of the cells and wards of the district prisons
are constructed either of iron bars, or thick wooden bars,
thereby affording a plentiful supply of fresh air.
