                Their duties include:—
              
            
            
              
                The construction aud maiutenance of
              
            
            
              
                streets, open spaces, Public gardens and
              
            
            
              
                plantations, sewers and drains, Public
              
            
            
              
                fountains, privies and urinals. The light–
              
            
            
              
                ing of the Municipal area. The cleaning
              
            
            
              
                of all streets and open spaces, aud the re–
              
            
            
              
                moval of night soil aud refuse of houses.
              
            
            
              
                The provisiou of a good aud sufficient sup–
              
            
            
              
                ply of water for the use of persous dwelling
              
            
            
              
                within the Municipal limits. The provision
              
            
            
              
                of slaughter houses and the regulation of
              
            
            
              
                the slaughter of animals for food. The
              
            
            
              
                establishment and regulation of markets,
              
            
            
              
                and the regulatiou of the sale of perishable
              
            
            
              
                goods and inflammable and explosive sub–
              
            
            
              
                stances. The inspectiou of food offered for
              
            
            
              
                sale aud the destruction of such as is unfit
              
            
            
              
                for consumptiou. The supervision of
              
            
            
              
                weights and measures and the provision of
              
            
            
              
                Public weighers and measurers. The pre–
              
            
            
              
                vention of noxious and offensive evades and
              
            
            
              
                the abatement of nuisances. The regulation
              
            
            
              
                of che construction of buildings and the
              
            
            
              
                demolition of'buildings unfit for habitation
              
            
            
              
                or in a dangerous condition. The provision
              
            
            
              
                of storage accommodation for inflammable
              
            
            
              
                and explosive substances. And generally
              
            
            
              
                che doing of such acts as will promote the
              
            
            
              
                health, comfort and convenience of the
              
            
            
              
                •.•ei-iple residing withiu the Municipal limits.
              
            
            
              
                For these purposes the Municipalities have
              
            
            
              
                power, with the approval of the High
              
            
            
              
                Commissioner, to impose rates and other
              
            
            
              
                fees and charges as set out under " Sources
              
            
            
              
                of Revenue" and to make Bye-Laws for
              
            
            
              
                regulating the various matters coming
