X V I I . W h a t provision is made for the education of
prisoners ?
In Central Prison 3 classes of one hour each are held
weekly ; in District Prisons there are no schools, but
weU-conducted prisoners who can read are aUowed to
have reUgious books of their respective persuasions.
XVIII. O n what conditions are remissions of im–
prisonment granted ?
Prisoners of good behaviour and industrious in labour
sentenced to not less than two years are, if males, after
three-fourths, or, if females, after two-thirds of their
term of imprisonment has expired, recommended to the
High Commissioner for remission of their sentence, with,
or without, Ticket of Leave.

Moustafa who died at the Nicosia General Hospital on
6th January, 1916.

In addition to above, fresh fruit in limited quantities m a y be
supplied when so ordered by the Medical Officer of the Prison :
also extra diet of 10 drams olives and 10 drams raisins are
supplieil once a week, i.e.. raisins on Tuesdays and olives on
Saturdays to all long sentence male and female prisoners during
the mouths when no fruit is given.
