PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS ON IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.

DOGS.—Importation from any place is prohibited, except at Larnaca where they shall be subject
to inspection and detention in quarantine as the Director of Agriculture m a y direct.
T h e importation into the Island of the under-mentioned goods articles and merchandise
is prohibited absolutely:
(1). SUver or copper coins.
(2). Beshliks, altiliks or metallique piastres.
(3). All sovereigns and half sovereigns coined before the reign of Her late Most
Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria.
(4). All sovereigns and half sovereigns which are below the least current weight as
defined in " T h e Coinage Act, 1870," or are otherwise not legally current in England.
(5). T b e substance known as Hashish.
(6). Salt oth«.c m a n table and rock salt.
T h e importation of the under-mentioned goods, articles and merchandise is subject to the
following restrictions :
(1). T h e importation into the Island of fire-arms, detached portions of fire-arms and
side-arms is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi aud Famagusta, and
(<?.) without a special license under the hand of- the Chief Secretary issued under
L a w 2-1 of 1879, sec. 30.
(2). T h e importatiou of gunpowder (except for the use of his Majesty's Naval and
Military forces) is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Lamaca and Limassoi (for Famagnsta see (2) below).
(6.) in kegs or barrels of a capacity not exceeding ten okes or in ./tasks of 1 lb. or of
*) lb. except where the High Commis*sioner has by special permission authorised
the importation in some other manner.
(3). The importation of shot, percussion caps, cartridges (other than ball cartridges)
and side-arms is restricted to the port3 of Larnaca, Limassoi aud Famagusta. •
(4). T h e importation of ball cartridges or of ball cartridge-cases except for the use of
His Majesty's Naval and Military forces is prohibited, except—
(d.) at the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi aud Famagusta, and
(b.) with the special permission of the High Commissioner.
(5). il). The importation of dynamite, nitroglycerine, gun-cotton, fulminate of mercury
or of other metals or of auy kindred substance is prohibited—
(a.) except at the port of Larnaca (a) (for Famagusta see (2) below), and
(b.) with the special permission of the High Commissioner, such permission being
in writing uuder the hand of the Chief Secretary to Government and subjecc to
snch conditions as the High Commissioner, may thinkfitto impose.
(2;. Gunpowder. Shot, Percussion Caps. Cartridges (ball and shot) Dynamite, Nitro–
glycerine, Guucottou, Blasting powder, Fulminate of Mercury or other metals, and
every other substance or preparation used or manufactured for explosive or pyro–
technic purposes, Fog signals. Rocket*. Fireworks. Fuzes* Detonators and Ainuiuuition
of all descriptions, including empty cartridge cases, may be imported at the Port
of Famagusta by such person or persons as may be authorised in that behalf by
special permission of the High Commissioner given under tin*; hand of the Chief
Secretary to Government, and subject to such liiiiitatious as to quantity as the High
Commissioner may see tit to impose: and upou such importation the said articles
shall be landed at such place and in such manner as the Commissioner aud Principal
Oficer of Customs of the District of Famagusta shall appoint (b).
(6). The landing in Cyprus of cattle, horns, hoofs, bones, fodder, litter or dung from
vessels arriving from places where cattle disease has beeu publicly notified to exist,
is prohibited.
