Note.—There is also an Express Delivery System for letters and other Postal packets but the tie
is payable by the addressee on the delivery of the letter or other Postal packet.
COLLECTION OF TRADE CHARGES ON POSTAL PACKETS.
I. The "Ca3hon Delivery'' system is designed to meet the requirements of persons who
wish to pay for articles sent to them at the time of receipt of the articles and also to meet the
requirements of traders and others who wish to recover through the agency of the Post Office the
value of articles supplied by them.
2. Throughout these Regulations the amount to be collected under the " Cash on Delivery "
system is called the *' Trade Charge."
3. The amount of Trade Charge shall not exceed the limits accepted by the country of
destination and the m a x i m u m shall iu no case exceed £ 2 0 including the fees payable to the Office
of Destination and Postage.
4. Every Cash on Delivery parcel or packet posted or delivered in Cyprus shall be chargeable
with such special fees as may be prescribed for that purpose.
5. The fee due to the Office of Origin shall be paid at the time of posting. The fee due to
the Office of Delivery shall be deducted, with the Commission ou the Money or Postal Order
from the amount of the Trade Charge collected from the addressee of a Cash on Delivery parcel
or packet and shall be forwarded direct from the Office of Delivery to the sender. These deduc–
tions are to be provided for by the sender and included in the amount desired to be collected.
i». Cash on Delivery parcels or p*ickecs are to be accepted at every District Post Office in
Cyprus and at Troodos and Platres ou the following conditions :—
The sender shall—
(a) write on the cover of the parcel or packet his name and full address, the amount in
British currency of the Trade Charge iu figures :ind words, and the name of the Office
on which the Money Order or Postal Order is to be drawn. These particulars may be
written on tlie back of the parcel or packet if there is no room for them to be written
clearly on the front. N o erasure or alteration of the entry of the amount shall be
allowed. A n incorrect entry shall be completely obliterated and a fresh entry made ;
(b) fill up a Request Form obtainable at all District Post Offices and the Post Offices
at Troddos aud Platres which includes a declaration that the Cash ou Delivery parcel
or packet is sent in fulfilment of an order (if the sender desires to correct the entry of
the Trails Charge he shallfillup a fresh form) ;
(c) prepay iu addition to the ordinary postage and other charges, tlie Cash on Delivery
fee provided for that purpose by affixing to the Request Form a postage stamp or
stamps denoting the amount of such fee.
The sender shall then hand in the parcel or packet at the counter, where he shall he supplied
with a certificate of posting which he shall give up when he presents the Money or Postal Order
to be cashed.
7. Where a Cash on Delivery parcel or packet has been insured, the amount or" the insurance
shall not exceed the amounc of the Trade Charge, and in the event of loss the amount of
indemnity shall be governed, without regard to the amount of the Trade Charge, by the ordinary
rides relating to parcels, insured letters or registered packets.
8. The amount of the Trade Charge shall not exceed the amount of the Declared Value
together with the postage and the fees payable on the parcel or packet in connection with the
Cash on Delivery system.
9. Any conversion of money that may be necessary shall be effected at the Office of
Destination.
10. Where the seuder of a Cash ou Delivery parcel or packet wishes to reduce or cancel the
Trade Charges on a parcel or packet, he shallfillup a special form to be obtained at all District
Post Offices and affix thereto a postage stamp or stamps denoting the amount of the fee prescribed
for that purpose.
11. Where a Cash on Delivery parcel or packec—(1) has been .irregularly accepted for a
country to which the system of Cash on Delivery does not extend : or (2) bears a Trade Charge
which exceeds the maximum prescribed in the country of destination ; or (3) lacks some essential
particulars, it mav be returned to the sender.
