PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS OX IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.
IMPORTS—r.ontin ued.
DOGS.—Importation from Egygt prohibited. From other Countries subject to inspection and
detention by Chief Medical Officer.
T h e importation into the Island of the under-mentioned goods articles and merchandise
is prohibited absolutely:
(1). .--iiver or copper coins.
(2). Bt-shliks. altiliks or metallique piastres.
(3). All sovereigns and half sovereigns coined before the reigu of Her lace Most
Gracious ilajesty (^ueen Victoria.
(4). Ail sovereigns and half sovereigns which are below the least current weight as
dedned in " T h e Coinage Act, 1870," or are otherwise not legally current in England.
(5). T b * substance known as Hashish.
(6). Salt otlif* i-uan table and rock salt.
The importation of the under-mentioned goods, articles aud merchandise is subject to the
following restrictions :
(1). T h e importation inco the Island of fire-arms, detached portions of fire-arms and
side-arms is prohibited except—
ia.) at tbe ports of Larnaca, Limassoi aud Famagusta, and
ib.) without a special license under the hand of the Chief Secretary issued under
L a w 2-t of 1879, sec. 30.
(2). The importation of gunpowder (excepc for the use of his Majesty's Naval and
Military forces) is prohibited excepc—
(rt.) at the ports of Larnaca and Limassoi (for Famagusta see (2) below).
(&.) in kegs or barrels of a capacity uot exceeding ten okes or in flasks of 1 lb. or of
it lb. except where the High Commissioner has by special permission authorised
the importation iu some other manner.
(3). The importation of shot, percussion caps, cartridges (other than ball cartridges)
and side-arms is restricted to the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and Famagusta.
(•4). The importation of bail cartridges or of ball cartridge-cases except for the use of
His Majesty's Naval and Military forces is prohibited, excepc—
(it.) ac the ports of Larnaca, Limassoi and Famagusta, and
(3.) wich the special permission of the High Commissioner.
(5). il). Tiie importation of dynamite, nitroglycerine,gun-cotton, fulminate of mercury
or of other metals or of any kindred substance is prohibited—
(a.) excepc at cue pore of Larnaca (for Famagusta see (2) below), and
(&.) with the special permission of the High Commissioner, such permission being
in writing under the hand of the Chief Secretary to Government and subject to
such conditions as the High Commissioner, may think fit to impose.
(2). Gunpowder, Shot, Percussion Caps. Cartridges (ball and 3hot) Dynamite, Nitro–
glycerine, Guucocton, Blasting powder. Fulminate of Mercury or other metals, aud
every other substance or preparation used or manufactured for explosive or pyro–
technic purposes. Fog signals, Rockets. Fireworks, Fuzes, Detouacors and Ammunition
of all descriptions, including empcy cartridge cases, m a y be imported at the Port
of Famagusta by such person or persons as may be authorised in that behalf by
special permission of the High Commissioner given under the hand of the Chief
Secretary to Government, and subject to such limitations a3 to quantity as the High
Commissioner m a y see fit to impose * and upon such importacion the said articles
shall be landed at such place and in such manner as che Commissioner and Principal
Officer of Customs of the District of Famagusta shall appoint (jfl
(6). The lauding in Cyprus of cattle, horns, hoofs, bones, fodder, litter or dung from
vessels arriving from places where cattle disease has been publicly notified to exist,
is prohibited.
