The Municipal Councils (or Com–
missions, as the case m a y be) are charged
with the general superintendence and con–
trol (excepting Police supervision) of the
Town, Tillage or area defined us the Muni–
cipal limits, in manner regulated by
various enactments.—
Their duties include :—
The construction aud maintenance
Municipal Commission

and plantations, sewers and drains, Public
| fountains,, privies and urinals.

The lighting of the Municipal area.
The cleaning of all streets and open !

The provision of a good and sufficient j

supply of water for th-i use of persons !
'. dwelling within the Municipal limits. i
The provision of slaughter houses and
I the regulation of the slaughter of animals ,
I for food.

j The establishment and regulation of j
| markets, and the regnlacion of the sale j
i of perishable goods and inflammable aud
j explosive substances.
! The iuspectiou of food offered for sale
! and the destruction of such as is unfit for
: consumption.
The supervision of weights and
I measures and the provision of Public'
i weighers and measurers.

The preveution of noxious and offen-
| sive trades and the abatement of uuisauces. *
The regulation of the construction of j

buildings and the demolition of buildings ;
i unfit for habitation or in a daugerous con–
dition.
The provision of storage accommoda-
! tion for inflammable aud explosive sub-
i stances.

j the Municipal limits.

For these purposes the Municipalities •
I have power, with the approval of. the j
| High Commissioner, to impose rates and
• otiier fees aud charges as set out uuder
: "Sources of Revenue" and to make Bye-
: Laws for regulating che various matters
i coming within the scow of their functions.
