The importatiou into the Island of the under-mentioned goods, articles and merchandise
is prohibited absolutely:
(1). Silver or copper coins.
(2). Beshliks, altiliks or metallique piastres.
(3). All sovereigns aud half sovereigns coiued before tbe reign of Her late Most
Gracious Majesty Qneen Victoria.
(4). All sovereigns and half sovereigns which are below the least current weight as
defined iu " T h e Coinage Act, 1870," or are otherwise not legally current in England.
(o). T h e substance known as Hashhh.
(6). Salt other than table and rock salt.
The importation of the under-mentioned goods, articles aud merchandise is subject to
the following restrictions:
(1). T h e importation into the Island offire-arms,detached portious of fire-arms and
• side-arms is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca and Limassoi, aud
(4.) without a special license under the band of the Chief Secretary issued under
the "Fire-arms (Importation) L a w , 1891."
(2). T h e importatiou of gunpowder (except for the use of His Majesty's Xaval and
Military forces) is prohibited except—
(a.) at the ports of Larnaca, and Limassoi, and nt the last named port the importation
of gunpowder by any person iu auy greater quantity than ten okes or twenty-eight
pounds is prohibited, and
(b.) in kegs or barrels of a capacity not exceeding ten okes or injlasks of lib. or of
ilb. except where the High Commissioner has by special permission authorised
the importation iu some orher manuer.
(3). T h e importation of shot, percussion caps, cartridges (other thau ball cartridges)
and side-arms is restricted to the port-- of Larnaca, and Limassoi, and at the last
named port the importation

of cartridges by any person in greater quantity than
ten okes or twenty-eight pounds is prohibited.
(4). T h e importation of ball cartridges or of ball cartridge-cases except for the use of
His Majesty's Xaval and Military forces is prohibited, except—
(a.) at the ports of Laruaca and Limassoi, and
(&.) with the special permission of the High Commissioner.
(5). T h e importation of dynamite, nirroglyceriue. gun-cotton, fulminate of mercury or of
other metals or of any kindred substance is prohibited—
(«i.) except at the port of Larnaca, and
(b

such conditions as the High Commissioner may think fit to impose.
(6). T h e landing in Cyprus of cattle, horns, hoofs, bones, fodder, litter or dung from
vessels arriving from places where cattle disease has beeu publicly notified to exist.

cases where special permission under the baud of the Chief Medical Officer has been
obtained to import them at some other place) and such importatiou shall, iu all cases,
be subject to tlie regulations in that behalf for tbe time being in force nuder the
'•Contagious Diseases (Animals') Ordinance. 1630.'"
(8). The* importation of rags aud old clothing into auy port or place of the-Island of
Cyprus, other than Larnaca, is prohibited, and such importatiou is liable to be
prohibited in auy case iu which the Chief Medical Officer or auy Officer acting for or
delegated by him certifies that rhe importation of rags or old clothing is likely tn be
injurious to the public health.
