In the native houses the domestic servants, chiefly
women, are generally clothed, housed and fed,
receiving no wages. In some cases payment '
is made to male servants, reaching £10 ner
annum. In foreign households servants are
usually housed and fed, and are paid wages as
high, iu some cases, as £4 a month. M e n are
chiefly employed.

(1) The winding machines at Papbo ave generally worked as follows:—The owners get "30 to 36c.p. per oke of silk
wound and either their families turn the wheels or woc-.en are employed at 4J to Gcp. per diem. As much as an oke
and a halt of silk can be wound on each wheel per diem. The winders pay all costs, fuel. &c. ••*•••'
