Under an Annex to rhe Convention of -ith June, 1878, between Great
Britain and Turkey the former power has undertaken to pay to the Porte, annual ly
a **um representing" the excess of Revenue over Kxpendifure calculated on the
average of the five vears preceding; the date of the Convention, excluding the
produce of State and Crown lauds let or sold during that period. The nmount to
be paid has been determined to be .£S7,f'.S(' per annum ; this to be in addition to
4,IW',220 okes of Salt to be paid in kind.
1 he sum of £113 lis. od. per annum has also become payable, under
the same Annex, since the-1th September, 1S8-1, when the Cvjnus (Jovemnient
took over the administration of the Lighthouse Service iu the Island. This sum
re prose* its 22V. of the receipts of the Ottoman Lighthouse .Administration which
the Sublime Porte eujoyed under the concession granted the Compnnv ior
lighting the Coast ot Cyprus.
liy a further Agreement of 3rd February. 187U. a further sum ot £5,000 is
to be paid annually to the Porte in respect of the produce of State lands.
